Binalong Bay Beach House

Binalong Bay Beach house Tasmania

A pebble’s throw away from the pearly white Binalong Bay beach this sanctuary sits grounded and embedded within the coastal foreshore vegetation.

Set in an environmentally sensitive location this beach house features natural robust materials such as rammed earthen walls for thermal mass and bushfire resistance, natural timber cladding to the upper level allowed to silver off in time, as well as low maintenance, high energy efficient windows and doors. The design of the building with wide eaves and protection to all windows and doors ensures shelter from weather in all conditions. The house is flooded with an abundance of natural light and is passive solar heated with a cosy wood fired heater for added ambience in the winter months.

This sanctuary provides a sheltering and solid vantage point when watching storms roll across the bay and enjoys panoramic views to the Bay of Fires.

The interior is timeless and minimalistic - the finishes of raw earthen walls, natural timbers and clay painted walls create a calm and healthy indoor environment.  The local granite boulder in the centre of the house has been hand-picked by the owners in honour of the pristine natural environment this house has been sited within.

A small indoor pool and sauna on the upper level add a luxurious touch to this well appointed haven.

The proud owners named their Binalong Bay home Alumuna and share it on AirBnB with guests to the Island.

The project was faithfully constructed with great attention to detail by Faran Mathews and the crew at FJM Homes.
